Minister Nitesh Rane Reviews Candela Company’s Hydrofoil Technology

Mumbai, Oct 2025 : Boats equipped with the latest technology from Candela, a world-leading Swedish company, will soon arrive in Mumbai — heralding a new revolution in the city’s water transport sector, said Minister for Fisheries and Ports, Nitesh Rane.

In line with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s vision of a “Modern, Smart, and Global Mumbai,” Minister Rane visited Candela’s headquarters in Sweden during his official tour. There, he conducted a detailed review of the company’s hydrofoil-based water transport vessels.

Minister Rane stated that this initiative marks an important step toward realizing the dream of a “Global Mumbai.” Once Candela’s eco-friendly water transport system begins operations in the city, citizens will enjoy a new kind of travel experience while connectivity along coastal areas will be significantly strengthened.

He added that the introduction of this modern technology will not only enhance water transport and coastal development in Maharashtra but will also create new employment opportunities in sectors such as fisheries, shipbuilding, and marine services.

During his visit, Minister Rane personally experienced Candela’s C-8 and P-12 high-tech boats on the Baltic Sea. These vessels, powered by hydrofoil technology, glide above the water surface, making them faster, more energy-efficient, and environmentally sustainable. The P-12 boat is expected to arrive in Mumbai soon, marking the beginning of a new chapter of modern water transport in the state.

During the visit, Candela’s Founder and CEO Gustav Hasselkog and Chief Business Officer Nakul Virat briefed Minister Rane on the company’s technological innovations and production processes. Preliminary discussions were also held regarding the establishment of a Candela manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
