Mother Donates Liver to Save Daughter’s Life; Financial Support Provided Through Chief Minister’s Relief Fund
Mumbai, Oct 2025 : Seven-year-old Devanshi had been battling a severe liver disease for several months. Doctors finally concluded that a liver transplant surgery was the only option to save her life, estimating the cost at ₹20 lakh. However, her family, which earns its livelihood from a small vegetable-selling business, could not afford such an expensive treatment.
In this difficult time, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Charitable Hospital Assistance Cell extended crucial financial aid to the family. With this support — and a selfless act by Devanshi’s mother, who donated a part of her liver — the surgery was successfully performed, saving the little girl’s life.
Ravindra Gawande, a vegetable vendor from Varud (Bu) village in Mangrulpir taluka, Washim district, supports his family through his small business. For months, his daughter Devanshi had been suffering from stomach pain, fever, and nausea. Initially, her parents sought treatment at hospitals in Mangrulpir and Akola, but when her condition did not improve, she was shifted to Nagpur.
After detailed medical tests, doctors diagnosed a serious liver ailment and recommended an urgent transplant, estimating the cost at ₹20 lakh.
During this time, Devanshi’s father learned about the Chief Minister’s Medical Relief Fund through friends and immediately reached out to the assistance cell. He also appealed for help through social media. With the intervention of the CM Relief Fund Cell, Devanshi was shifted to Wadia Hospital in Mumbai for advanced treatment.
A major portion of the medical expenses was covered through the Chief Minister’s Medical Relief Fund and Tata Trusts, while the remaining amount was raised through social organizations and contributions from villagers.
Devanshi’s mother, Meenakshi Gawande, donated a portion of her liver, and the transplant surgery was successfully conducted on July 7, 2025. Devanshi has now been discharged from the hospital, and her health continues to improve steadily.
“Our daughter’s life was saved only because of the timely help from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Cell and Tata Trusts,” said Ravindra Gawande, expressing his gratitude.
Rameshwar Naik, head of the Chief Minister’s Relief and Charitable Hospital Assistance Cell, said,
“Under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, we strive to ensure that every poor and needy patient receives timely medical treatment. Devanshi’s case is a perfect example of this effort. We are happy and satisfied that we could provide help in time.”
