Everyone’s Responsibility to Preserve Tribal Culture and Traditions – Minister Dr. Vijayakumar Gavit

Nandurbar : Preserving the traditions and culture of our tribal communities is everyone’s responsibility, according to State Tribal Development Minister Dr. Vijayakumar Gavit. In addition, the government has taken steps to simplify the process of obtaining validity certificates for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Maharashtra Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Special Backward Classes. This decision was announced by Dr. Gavit today.

Speaking at the main event of Vishwa Adivasi Gaurav Day, held at the Taluka Sports Complex ground, Dr. Gavit emphasized that if a validity certificate is found to have been issued based on incorrect records, there is currently no provision for re-verification. To address this, a committee will be formed to review the certificates. Additionally, an appellate authority will be established to handle appeals before cases reach the High Court. The current fine for an invalid caste certificate ranges from ₹2,000 to ₹20,000, but it is necessary to increase this penalty and implement FIRs for effective enforcement. Dr. Gavit also mentioned that legal provisions have been made to protect committee members involved in these processes.

On the occasion of World Adivasi Day, Dr. Gavit paid tribute to the revolutionaries who sacrificed for the freedom and justice of tribal communities and acknowledged the role of tribals in preserving the forests. He stated that World Tribal Day is celebrated to honor those who have contributed to our well-being. The government is committed to using this day to bring tribal communities into the mainstream of development.

Education is key to integrating tribals into the mainstream, and the Tribal Development Department is making significant efforts to improve educational opportunities. Dr. Gavit announced that all government ashram schools in the state will be digitized within six months. A biometric system will be implemented in Nandurbar and Gadchiroli to ensure the discipline of officers and teachers. Additionally, a portal for foreign education opportunities for tribal students was launched today. To prevent migration, the government is providing training and industry opportunities for women self-help groups.

New schemes for personal benefit have been introduced by the state government. The Ashram Schools under the Tribal Development Department are now publishing booklets to teach students in local dialects, with first and second classes being taught through these dialects.

Zilla Parishad President Dr. Supriya Gavit, Former Member of Parliament Dr. Hina Gavit, senior social worker Dr. Kantilal Tatia, and Tribal Commissioner Nayana Gunde were among those present at the event.
