IndiGo to Issue Compensation Vouchers to Passengers Hit by Early December Flight Disruptions

New Delhi, Dec 2025 : IndiGo will begin compensating passengers affected by its large-scale flight cancellations earlier this month, with travel vouchers set to be issued starting December 26. The decision follows a high-level review meeting convened by Aviation Secretary Samir Sinha, where the airline was instructed to expedite relief measures for impacted travellers.

According to reports, IndiGo will roll out travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 to passengers who were severely affected and stranded for long hours on December 3, 4, and 5. These vouchers will be extended in addition to the compensation mandated under government rules, which ranges from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. Authorities have urged the airline to ensure swift and seamless payments to all eligible passengers.

Passengers who booked their tickets directly through IndiGo’s website are expected to receive compensation first, as their details are already available in the airline’s system. Payments to this group are likely to begin by the end of next week.

For passengers who booked their travel through Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) or travel agents, IndiGo has been asked to collect necessary information and ensure direct settlement. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been tasked with monitoring the implementation of the compensation plan, while the Ministry of Civil Aviation will oversee the process via the Air Seva grievance portal.

Although IndiGo has already begun issuing refunds to many customers, a significant number of passengers who booked via OTAs have yet to receive payments due to coordination delays between booking platforms and the airline. Reports indicate that MakeMyTrip has already processed refunds worth nearly Rs 10 crore following instructions from the DGCA, despite not having received corresponding funds from IndiGo.

In response to the unprecedented disruptions, IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta recently announced that the airline’s Board will appoint external technical experts to work with management and determine the root causes of the operational breakdown. Mehta emphasised that the objective is to prevent any recurrence of the large-scale collapse that led to hundreds of cancellations and delays earlier this month.

IndiGo has stated that full network connectivity was restored by December 8, and operations have remained stable since December 9. The carrier has been facing heightened scrutiny from regulatory authorities and public criticism over the disruptions, which led to significant inconvenience for thousands of passengers across multiple airports in India.

As IndiGo prepares to roll out compensation vouchers and accelerate refund processing, aviation authorities will continue to keep a close watch to ensure the airline meets its commitments and avoids further delays.
