Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar Visits Vangchhia Tourism Project
Champhai, January 2026: Tourism Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar on Monday visited Vangchhia village to inspect the ongoing Cultural and Heritage Centre project being implemented under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme at Zofate Thlangtlak Gate, Kawtchhuah Ropui.
During the visit, the Minister spent some time interacting with the Vangchhia Village Council and local residents at the VC Office complex. Addressing the gathering, he spoke about the objectives of the project and the progress of work completed so far. He emphasised that tourism requires strong coordination between the community and the public. While the government initiates such projects, their success, sustainability and benefits ultimately depend on active public participation, he said.
Highlighting Vangchhia’s tourism potential, the Minister noted that the village already has a strong attraction for visitors and is therefore well-positioned to draw more tourists. He urged the local community to maintain and manage the ongoing project efficiently and to ensure warm hospitality for visitors so that tourist footfall continues to grow. He also pointed out that, under the government’s tourism strategy, priority is being given to the promotion of homestays rather than constructing large tourist lodges, and encouraged villagers to actively participate in this initiative.
Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar was accompanied by Pi R. Lalrodingi, Director of the Tourism Department; Pu Henry C. Lalrawnkima, Secretary of the Mizoram State Sports Council; and local leaders of Vangchhia village.
The project at Vangchhia is titled “Development of Basic Amenities under PRASHAD Scheme at Vangchhia” and has an approved outlay of ₹5.4732 crore. The project includes the construction of rainwater harvesting tanks, installation of solar streetlights, and development of various amenities and facilities for tourists.
Kawtchhuah Ropui is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and is officially known as “Menhirs and Caves at Vangchhia.”
