Rajasthan’s Usta Art to Shine in Republic Day Parade Tableau

Jaipur, January 2026 : This year, Rajasthan’s tableau for the Republic Day parade on Rajpath in New Delhi will showcase the world-renowned Usta art of Bikaner. During the full-dress rehearsal held on Friday, the tableau captivated viewers with its exquisite craftsmanship, cultural grandeur, and vibrant presentation.

Tableau designer and supervisor Shri Har Shiv Kumar Sharma explained that the theme of Rajasthan’s tableau is “Golden Touch of the Rajasthan Desert.” At the forefront, a 180-degree rotating figure of a musician playing the famous folk instrument Ravanhatta is displayed. On either side, intricately decorated surahi (pots), kuppi, and lamps crafted in Usta art are placed within attractive frames. This front section of the tableau stands approximately 13 feet tall.

Shri Sharma added that the trailer section features rotating traditional kuppis and artisans working on handicrafts, reflecting the living tradition of Usta art. In the background, a large camel and rider sculpture symbolizes Rajasthan’s desert culture and folk life. Arches adorned with Usta art display fine examples of leafy gold craftsmanship on both sides.

Around the tableau, performers of non-folk dances further highlighted Rajasthan’s cultural identity. Overall, the tableau represents a lively confluence of traditional art, folk culture, and royal heritage.

Dr. Rajneesh Harsh, Secretary of the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Academy, said the tableau was created under the guidance of the state’s Deputy Chief Minister & Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Diya Kumari, Additional Chief Secretary Praveen Gupta, and Deputy Secretary Anuradha Gogia.
