New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hosted a breakfast meeting with 45 Parliamentarians, including several leaders who recently switched political affiliations and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), assuring them of the coalition’s support amid disruptions during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
During the interaction, Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over repeated disruptions in both Houses, saying the frequent uproar by Opposition members was preventing lawmakers from effectively participating in parliamentary debates and raising issues concerning their constituencies.
According to reports, Modi sought to reassure MPs who had recently crossed over to the NDA, including former members of the Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena-UBT. He reportedly told them not to be apprehensive and emphasised that the NDA functioned as a family, with the coalition and its leadership standing firmly behind every member.
“The NDA is a family. We are with the constituent parties. I am with every MP,” Modi was quoted as saying during the interaction, according to NDTV.
The breakfast meeting was attended by 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs, who had merged into the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, seven former Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena MPs, six of whom subsequently joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, 20 National People's Party MPs and two members of the Nationalist Congress Party faction led by Ajit Pawar.
The Prime Minister also encouraged the MPs to familiarise themselves with the history and traditions of Parliament and actively participate in debates. He stressed the importance of preserving parliamentary democracy and ensuring that the concerns of constituents receive adequate representation in the House.
Modi also shared his own experiences as a parliamentarian and advised the MPs to maintain cordial and constructive relations with Opposition members. He reportedly cautioned the newly aligned lawmakers against being influenced by political narratives emerging from the national capital.
“Don't get caught in Delhi's web of narratives,” he was quoted as telling the MPs, urging them to remain focused on their parliamentary responsibilities and work for their respective constituencies.
The breakfast interaction was part of Modi's broader outreach to NDA lawmakers during the Monsoon Session. A day earlier, he had hosted a dinner meeting for 37 BJP MPs at his official residence.
The informal interactions are aimed at strengthening coordination among BJP MPs and alliance partners while providing lawmakers an opportunity to discuss governance, parliamentary functioning and legislative priorities in a more relaxed setting.
