Champhai Observes International Literacy Day
Champhai : Today, the District Programme Office of Women & Child Development in Champhai celebrated International Literacy Day at the I&PR Auditorium in Champhai. The event was graced by Champhai Deputy Commissioner Pu VL Remliana, who served as the chief guest.
In his address, Pu VL Remliana emphasized that education has always been an essential part of Mizo culture, contributing greatly to progress. He highlighted the importance of literacy not just for academic purposes but also for fostering critical thinking, sound judgment, and informed decision-making. He encouraged students to focus on improving their literacy skills to ensure continuous personal and societal growth. He also reminded attendees that simply reading and writing is not enough—critical thinking and application of knowledge are key to true literacy.
The Deputy Commissioner also touched upon the challenges posed by social media, particularly its negative impact on youth. He urged students to prioritize reading books over spending time on social media platforms, emphasizing that real knowledge comes from focused reading and learning.
