‘Mahawachan Utsav’ for the Personality Development of Students
Mumbai : Reading is a key tool for personality development and creativity, providing both knowledge and pleasure. The Mahawachan Utsav 2024, organized by the Department of School Education, aims to attract students towards books and foster a love of reading from an early age to enhance their educational experience. As of September 11, 2024, a total of 12,30,557 students from 96,639 schools (88.95 percent) have participated in this initiative, according to R. Vimala, State Project Director of the Maharashtra Primary Education Council.
Due to the growing obsession with screens like mobile phones, TVs, and computers, many children are drifting away from the joy of reading. To counter this, the school education department launched the Mahawachan Utsav, encouraging children to reconnect with books. The initiative will continue until September 20, 2024.
Amitabh Bachchan as Brand Ambassador for Mahawachan Utsav
Last year, the ‘Maharashtra Reading Movement’ was implemented across all schools in the state, with 66,000 schools and 52 lakh students participating. This initiative was assessed by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and received a tremendous response from students. Building on this success, the Mahawachan Utsav for the 2024-25 academic year is being implemented in all state schools, in partnership with Read India. Renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan has been chosen as the brand ambassador, and he has encouraged everyone to read something new for at least 10 minutes each day.
For students from Class III to XII, three groups have been established: III to V, VI to VIII, and IX to XII.
