Bird Conservation in Sambhar Lake Must Be Secured at All Costs – District Collector

Jaipur, October 30: District Collector Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni has directed officials to ensure comprehensive care and conservation of the birds inhabiting Sambhar Lake and its surrounding areas.

On Monday, Dr. Soni held a review meeting in the Collectorate Hall with officials from relevant departments to discuss bird conservation and the improved maintenance of Sambhar Lake. He instructed municipal officials to maintain cleanliness in and around the lake area, facilitate efficient wastewater drainage, and implement immediate action against the use of single-use plastics in the vicinity.

The District Collector also directed the Sambhar Sub-Divisional Officer to coordinate with all departments to initiate rescue operations, promote tourism in Sambhar, encourage bird enthusiasts to act as “bird friends,” and involve them in rescue efforts.

Furthermore, Dr. Soni instructed the Animal Husbandry Department to release guidelines for the disposal of deceased birds and to provide necessary training for personnel on handling deceased and injured birds. He also tasked Sambhar Salt Limited with allocating maximum resources for rescue operations and directed the Forest Department to begin rescue activities and establish temporary rescue centers.

Following reports of deceased birds in Sambhar Lake, District Collector Dr. Soni assigned specific responsibilities to relevant departments to ensure effective bird conservation. He appointed District Forest Officer Mr. Ketan Kumar as the nodal officer for bird protection in Sambhar Lake. Additionally, he mandated that district-level officials inspect the lake area weekly, while local officials must conduct daily inspections.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Forest Conservator Mr. V. Ketan Kumar, Additional District Collector Mrs. Kuntal Vishnoi, and representatives from the Forest Department, Urban Local Bodies, Sambhar Salt Limited, Pollution Control Board, Animal Husbandry Department, and other related departments.
