Holiday on November 20 for Voting Across All Establishments under the Industry Department

Mumbai : To ensure that all voters can exercise their voting rights in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly General Election on November 20, 2024, a holiday has been declared for all establishments under the Industry Department on election day. This notification has been issued by the Departments of Industry, Energy, Labor, and Mining.

According to Section 135(b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, a holiday must be granted on election day to every eligible voter working in any business, trade, industrial establishment, or other organization within the electoral area. This provision applies to all industries, corporations, companies, industrial units, and other establishments under the Industry Department. Additionally, as per Subsection (1), no deductions will be made from the employees’ wages for this holiday.

All corporations, industries, companies, industrial units, and other establishments under the Industry Department are required to strictly adhere to these instructions. The circular issued by the Departments of Industry, Energy, Labor, and Mining specifies that appropriate action will be taken against any organization that does not provide holiday or leave allowances for voting, preventing employees from casting their votes.
