Champhai Marks Independence Day with Grand Celebration
Champhai : Today at 11:00 AM, the 78th Independence Day of India was celebrated with grandeur at Chhangphut Field, in line with celebrations across the country. The event was graced by Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister Pu PC Vanlalruata, who presided over the occasion and reviewed the parade of 18 contingents. Adviser to the Chief Minister, Er. Ginzalala, who is also the MLA for Champhai North, was in attendance.
In his address, Agriculture Minister Pu PC Vanlalruata expressed his gratitude to the people of Champhai for their participation in the Independence Day celebrations. He acknowledged the significance of Independence Day as a time to honor those who fought for India’s freedom and recognized India’s strength as the world’s largest democracy.
Minister Pu PC Vanlalruata also discussed the state’s initiatives to support farmers, including plans by the Mizoram government to stabilize the prices of crops like ginger, areca nut, turmeric, and other local produce. He emphasized that farmers will receive a support price of at least ₹80 per kilogram for ginger to ensure fair compensation. The Minister highlighted ongoing efforts by the government to address challenges faced by farmers, such as the overproduction of ginger and the spread of the African Swine Fever, and assured that measures are being taken to mitigate these issues.
Additionally, Pu PC Vanlalruata mentioned that the Mizoram government is finalizing a “Hand Holding Policy” to further assist citizens and ensure that government initiatives are effective in driving progress. He called on the public to cooperate and actively participate in the government’s efforts to advance the state and protect against negative influences.
The Minister noted that one of the reasons India has made significant progress is its stability, despite ongoing conflicts. He added that while Mizoram has faced prolonged insurgency and unrest in the past, the state has now emerged as one of the most peaceful and developed regions in the northeast. He concluded his speech by reflecting on the various development projects undertaken by government departments in Champhai District over the past year.
During the Independence Day ceremony, Agriculture Minister Pu PC Vanlalruata also presented the Governor’s Commendation Certificates to Pu C.
