Over 500 Crores of Assets Seized During Election Period; 6,000 Teams Deployed for Vehicle Inspections

Mumbai : In the backdrop of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, static and flying surveillance teams have been deployed across the state to ensure adherence to the Model Code of Conduct. A total of 6,000 teams are conducting vehicle inspections, leading to the seizure of suspicious items. To date, more than 500 crore rupees of illegal assets have been confiscated.

Under the Model Code of Conduct applicable during elections, political parties and candidates are prohibited from offering any incentives to voters. The central and state enforcement agencies are actively working, with Static Surveillance Teams (SST) and Flying Surveillance Teams (FST) stationed in each assembly constituency. For this election, a total of 6,000 teams and 19 enforcement agencies have been appointed across Maharashtra.

Static and flying teams have been instructed to inspect every vehicle and take further action if anything suspicious is found. Leaders and star campaigners from various parties often travel by air during election periods, and their helicopters and planes are also checked. Inspections are conducted on all vehicles, without exception for any political party or category. Every vehicle passing through locations with static surveillance teams is checked, and these teams include police constables, revenue officers, and staff from other departments. Care is taken to avoid inconvenience to citizens during inspections. Any suspicious items, such as money, liquor, or valuable metals, are seized and dealt with according to regulations.

In Maharashtra, during the Model Code of Conduct for the assembly elections, all enforcement agencies and surveillance teams have so far seized assets valued at over 500 crore rupees, curbing attempts to influence voters with incentives. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has also reiterated that citizens can report any such incidents through the C-Vigil app.
