“Imran Khan accuses Pakistan’s army chief of directly putting his wife behind bars.”
Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and a former prime minister currently in jail, accused Army chief General Asim Munir of directly influencing the imprisonment of his wife, Bushra Bibi. Khan made these claims during a conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail, alleging that Munir played a role in the sentencing and even suggesting that the judge was pressured into the decision. Khan also criticized the state of governance in Pakistan, claiming it operates like a jungle where those in power dictate outcomes, with selective justice being meted out.
Additionally, Khan voiced concerns about the economy, asserting that stability cannot be attained solely through IMF loans but rather through attracting investment. He highlighted a recent clash between police and the army in Punjab, criticizing the treatment of the police and alleging that they were forced to apologize to their assailants. Khan further claimed that his political party, PTI, was being obstructed from participating in by-elections, urging his supporters to stand against oppression and protect each vote. As of now, there has been no response from the army regarding these serious allegations.
