The Religious Site of Prayagraj with an Unbreakable Bond to Lord Shri Ram

Shringverpur Dham: The Place Where Lord Shri Ram Crossed the Ganga River During His Exile

  • Named Shringverpur Due to Sage Shringi’s Hermitage
Shringverpur is known for its association with Sage Shringi’s meditation, which lends its name to the region. It is also the historic meeting place of Lord Shri Ram and his childhood friend Nishad Raj.
  • Grand Corridor and Nishad Raj Park Built Under CM Yogi’s Inspiration
With guidance from CM Yogi Adityanath, a divine and magnificent corridor and Nishad Raj Park were constructed at Shringverpur Dham, enhancing its spiritual and tourism significance.

Mahakumbhnagar: Prayagraj is one of the oldest cities in Sanatan culture, holding a special place in texts like the Rigveda, Puranas, Ramayana, and Mahabharata. The city shares a unique bond with Lord Shri Ram and his exile. According to the Ramayana, Shri Ram, after leaving Ayodhya for exile, arrived at Shringverpur Dham, where he stayed overnight and crossed the Ganga River with the help of his childhood friend, Nishad Raj, before heading to Sage Bharadwaj’s ashram.

Shringverpur is called so because it was the hermitage of Sage Shringi. During the preparations for the 2025 Mahakumbh, CM Yogi Adityanath oversaw the construction of a grand corridor, a large statue, and Nishad Raj Park at this sacred site.

Shringverpur: Associated with Lord Shri Ram Even Before His Birth

The connection between Shringverpur Dham and Shri Ram dates back to before his birth. The Ramayana recounts that King Dasharatha invited Sage Shringi to Ayodhya on Sage Vashishtha’s advice to perform the Putrakameshti Yagna, which blessed the king with four sons—Ram, Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughna. As Sage Shringi meditated here, the region came to be called Shringverpur.

The Ramayana also mentions that Lord Shri Ram’s sister, Shanta, was married to Sage Shringi. Even today, a temple dedicated to Sage Shringi and Mother Shanta exists at Shringverpur, where devotees pray for progeny.

Shringverpur Dham: The Meeting Place of Lord Shri Ram and Nishad Raj

Shringverpur Dham is the historic site where Shri Ram met his childhood friend, Nishad Raj. According to the Valmiki Ramayana and Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas, Shri Ram first reached Shringverpur after leaving Ayodhya for his exile. Nishad Raj hosted him, convincing him to spend the night there. The village of the Kevats (boatmen) is still known as Ramchaura.

Near the Ganga River’s banks lies Ram Shayan Ashram, where it is believed Shri Ram, Sita, and Lakshman stayed overnight. From the ghats of Shringverpur, Nishad Raj ferried Shri Ram across the Ganga in his boat and escorted him to Sage Bharadwaj’s ashram.

CM Yogi’s Initiative for Shringverpur’s Development

Under the guidance of CM Yogi Adityanath, Shringverpur Dham was beautified and a grand corridor was built for the 2025 Mahakumbh at a cost of ₹14 crore. A 52-foot statue commemorating Shri Ram and Nishad Raj’s friendship and a park were constructed, inaugurated by PM Modi during his recent visit to Prayagraj.

Additionally, murals depicting Shri Ram’s arrival were created at the Ganga River’s banks, including Sandhya and Ramchaura ghats. Nishad Raj Park features scenes of Shri Ram’s journey, while the tourism department has introduced facilities like a facility center and home-stay services for pilgrims.
