PM Modi Inaugurates Modern Charlapally Railway Terminal
HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the newly redeveloped Charlapally Railway Terminal, designed to ease congestion at Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda stations. Developed at a cost of ₹430 crore, the terminal features state-of-the-art facilities comparable to airports and is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for approximately 50,000 passengers daily.

Initially catering to around 25 pairs of trains, the terminal has the capacity to handle up to 50 trains per day. It boasts nine platforms, modern amenities such as lifts and escalators, and extensive parking facilities. The project aims to meet Hyderabad’s growing population needs for the next 50 years while reducing the heavy inflow of passengers at existing stations.
The new station building features contemporary architecture with six booking counters, separate waiting areas for men and women, an executive lounge, and a high-class waiting room. Additional facilities include a cafeteria, restaurant, a mothers’ dining room, and upgraded restroom facilities for both men and women.
The terminal is equipped with 19 tracks to enable seamless travel to major destinations across India. Trains bound for Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam will now operate from Charlapally, significantly decongesting Secunderabad station. Key trains such as the Gorakhpur-Secunderabad Express, MGR Chennai Central-Hyderabad Express, and Shalimar-Hyderabad East Coast Express will originate from Charlapally, while others, including the Guntur-Secunderabad Golconda Express and Secunderabad-Sirpur Kagaznagar Express, will halt here.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined the event virtually, while Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Malkajgiri MP Itela Rajender, and other dignitaries attended in person.
The Charlapally terminal is expected to revolutionize railway connectivity in Hyderabad, providing passengers with a modern, hassle-free experience while addressing the city’s increasing transportation demands.
