Kho-Kho World Cup 2025: Indian Women’s Team Becomes Champions by Defeating Nepal 78-40
Mumbai – The Indian Women’s Kho-Kho team emerged as the first-ever Kho-Kho World Cup champions, defeating Nepal 78-40 in a thrilling final. The Indian team showcased exceptional performance throughout the tournament, remaining undefeated in both the group stages and knockout rounds. The final match saw them face their arch-rivals, Nepal, who also had dominant victories in the semi-finals, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown.
Nepal won the toss and chose to let India attack first—a decision that ultimately worked against them. The Indian team seized the opportunity, scoring quickly and putting immediate pressure on their opponents. Within 50 seconds, India dismissed Nepal’s top three defenders—Saraswati, Pooja, and Deepa—setting a dominant tone. Nepali players Poonam, Nisha, and Manmati attempted to shift the momentum, but India’s relentless play continued to dominate. A brilliant double-out by India’s captain, Priyanka Ingle, helped India finish the first half with a commanding lead of 34-0.
To stay in the match, Nepal needed a strong counterattack, but India’s defenders, Chaitra, Vaishnavi, and Ingle, had other plans. Chaitra’s tireless defending, alongside the strategic efforts of the other two, trapped the Nepali players for more than three minutes, preventing any significant score. India’s well-coordinated defense sealed the victory, cementing their place in history as the first Kho-Kho World Cup champions.
This remarkable win highlights India’s dominance and skill in the sport, setting a high standard for future tournaments.
