Women lead Sitapur’s sanitation drive under Yogi govt’s ‘AMRUT Mitra’ initiative
Lucknow : The Yogi government continues to prioritize women’s empowerment and sanitation in Uttar Pradesh. In a groundbreaking initiative under the AMRUT Mission, four courageous women from a Self-Help Group (SHG) in Sitapur have been entrusted with the operation of a Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP). These women are not only managing the machines, but also handling the entire technical process with expertise.
The FSTP plays a crucial role in treating and disposing of fecal sludge collected from the city through scientific methods, ensuring an environmentally friendly process. Traditionally considered a male-dominated field, these women have proved that with proper training and opportunities, they can excel in any sector.
This initiative reflects the Yogi government’s efforts to integrate women’s empowerment with sanitation. The responsibilities of these SHG women include:
▪️ Monitoring sludge flow and operating machines
▪️ Ensuring proper treatment and adherence to hygiene standards
▪️ Implementing environmentally safe disposal methods
Their dedicated efforts mark a significant step toward making Sitapur cleaner and healthier, setting an inspiring example of women’s leadership in sanitation management.
At first, society questioned them. Could women handle machines? Would they last in this field? But these four women proved everyone wrong with their dedication and hard work. Today, they not only operate the plant, but also understand its processes and improve them.
With the Yogi government’s support, they have earned a respected place in the sanitation sector. Their success is now inspiring many other women to step into this field. They have changed mindsets and shown that when given the right opportunity, women can overcome any challenge.
The involvement of Self-Help Group (SHG) women in Sitapur has given a new dimension to the sanitation mission. It has proven that the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission and AMRUT Mission can be effectively achieved. If women in other cities also receive technical training, they too can become self-reliant.
Their participation will increase awareness and engagement in sanitation efforts. The Yogi government’s initiative has demonstrated that cleanliness is not just the government’s responsibility—it requires the participation of every citizen.
The “Amrut Mitra” women of Sitapur are not just operating machines; they are changing society’s perspective and opening doors to new opportunities. Their success proves that hard work is the biggest asset.
This is not just the story of one city—it is the beginning of a new movement for women’s empowerment and sanitation. Thanks to this initiative, women in Uttar Pradesh are finding a new direction.
