Sangli : To maintain uninterrupted law and order in the district, the police force should perform their duties thoroughly. For this, effective implementation of new criminal laws should be done to increase conviction rates, instructions given by Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Chief Minister Fadnavis was speaking as chairperson of the police crime review meeting. The meeting was held in the conference room of the Superintendent of Police office, attended by Higher and Technical Education Minister and Sangli Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, CM’s Additional Chief Secretary Vikas Kharge, Special Police Inspector General (Law and Order) Manojkumar Sharma, Kolhapur Range In-charge Special Police Inspector General Dr. Shashikant Mahurkar, District Collector Ashok Kakade, Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghuge, District Council CEO Trupti Dhodmise, Municipal Commissioner Satyam Gandhi, Additional Superintendent of Police Ritu Khokhar, and senior police officers.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, study the reasons for acquittal and eliminate the errors. Review police stations with a higher rate of accused acquittals. Correct these shortcomings. For this, meetings of government lawyers should be held. Regular and effective implementation of e-summons should be done. This saves time and money. All measures should be taken in the district to increase the conviction rate, he instructed.

Regarding property-related crimes, return the seized property, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. To completely eradicate drugs, while carrying out preventive anti-drug actions, survey and inspect closed chemical factories in industrial areas. Police stations in the district should be informed for this, he instructed.

Congratulating for good performance in maintaining law and order during elections, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, follow up on missing women cases until their resolution. Track the number of cases filed and how many women have returned, police station-wise. Conduct special campaigns for this. Establish separate arrangements for cases under Motor Vehicle Act, he instructed.

Increase the rate of filing charge sheets. Increase conviction rates, instructed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying the speed of filing charge sheets should be increased through new criminal laws. Increase the rate of filing charge sheets within 60 to 90 days. Trials should be held even in the absence of the accused. The new criminal law has expanded the scope of evidence admissibility; take advantage of this. Regularly convert zero FIRs into regular FIRs, he said.

Meanwhile, after reviewing law and order, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis instructed all agencies in the district to remain alert ahead of the upcoming monsoon. A 117% rainfall forecast has been made. Therefore, keeping in mind the flood threat of 2019 in Sangli and Kolhapur, necessary measures should be taken accordingly. Public awareness should be created, he instructed.

District Collector Ashok Kakade assured that the four main agencies — district administration, district council, municipal corporation, and police force — will remain alert and work in coordination during possible flood situations.

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghuge gave a presentation on the police force’s performance in the district. It included police stations, police force structure, property-related and other registered solved crimes, serious crimes, crimes against women, illegal business actions, preventive actions, crime clearances, summons and warrants, conviction rates, reasons behind acquittals, implementation of new criminal laws, new law training, e-sign app, forensic van, charge sheets filed under Indian Penal Code, zero FIR registration, e-summons, seized property in property crimes, motor vehicle cases, anti-drug task force, special drug actions, seven-section action plans, innovative initiatives, special performances, welfare initiatives of police, initiatives through district planning committee, and challenges faced.

Sub-divisional police officers, police inspectors, and assistant police inspectors were also present at the program.
