Honeymoon Murder Twist: Victim’s Brother Alleges Fake Surrender, Multiple Accused in Meghalaya Case
Indore: In a dramatic development in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, Vipin Raghuvanshi, the brother of deceased Raja Raghuvanshi, has levelled serious allegations against the prime accused and sister-in-law, Sonam Raghuvanshi. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Vipin alleged that Sonam’s surrender was staged and that over five people were involved in the planned murder of his brother during what was supposed to be a honeymoon trip.
Vipin claimed that Sonam had pretended to surrender to the authorities and was accompanied by two unidentified individuals when she arrived. “She called her brother and said someone had left her there. If she didn’t know them, how did she reach there with them? She had travelled by bus with two other people. This surrender is just an act,” he said. Vipin also accused Sonam of being in continuous contact with Raj Singh Kushwaha, who allegedly had an affair with her and is now one of the key suspects.
He further stated, “If Raj was innocent, he wouldn’t have talked to Sonam for hours after Raja was killed. She was found in Raj’s hometown and likely stayed at his house. Their communication continued even between Raja’s murder and the discovery of his body.”
Vipin also pointed fingers at Sonam’s family, especially her mother, claiming she hid information regarding her daughter’s relationship with Raj. “If her father or brother knew, they would have fired Raj from their factory. This wasn’t just Sonam’s doing—there are more than five people involved.”
Meanwhile, the fourth accused in the case, identified as Anand, has been placed under seven-day transit remand. He joins the three other suspects—Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Raj Singh Kushwaha—who were sent on remand the previous day. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia confirmed Anand’s arrest and said he would be taken to Shillong along with the others for further investigation.
According to police sources, Raj worked as an accountant in Sonam’s office. Vishal and Anand are college students, while Akash is currently unemployed. All four accused are in the 20–25 age group and reportedly have no prior criminal records. The police believe all of them are close acquaintances of Raj Kushwaha.
Meghalaya police had earlier obtained a three-day transit remand for Sonam Raghuvanshi and brought her to Phulwari Sharif police station in Patna. She was kept at a Sakhi One Stop Centre in Ghazipur and later taken for a medical examination before being transferred to Meghalaya. Her surrender came just days after Raja’s body was found, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies across several states.
According to Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, four people have been arrested so far, including Sonam. Speaking at a press briefing on June 9, Tynsong said investigations were ongoing and another suspect was still being traced.
The head of the Meghalaya SIT, Herbert Piniyad Kharkongor, revealed that post-mortem findings showed Raja had two fatal head injuries, further suggesting foul play. Raja, a resident of Indore, had gone missing with his wife Sonam during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His body was later recovered, sending shockwaves across the country.
As the investigation deepens, the case continues to reveal chilling details of betrayal and premeditated murder, leaving Raja’s family and the public demanding justice.
