Israel Confirms Killing of Top Iranian Military Commander in Airstrike on Tehran
Jerusalem : The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it had successfully killed Ali Shadmani, the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces and one of the country’s highest-ranking military leaders. The strike, which targeted a command center in central Tehran, was carried out by the Israeli Air Force during an overnight operation.
According to the Israeli military, the mission was launched based on “precise intelligence” and a “sudden opportunity” that presented itself, leading to the elimination of the senior Iranian official.
Shadmani was identified as the top operational commander of Iran’s armed forces and a close confidant of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He held leadership over both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Army, making him a key figure in Iran’s military hierarchy.
He had recently taken charge of Iran’s armed forces following the death of his predecessor, Alaa Ali Rashid, who was killed in an earlier Israeli airstrike. That previous attack had sparked the ongoing five-day conflict between the two countries, which has seen escalating aerial warfare.
The Israeli military described Shadmani’s killing as a significant blow to Iran’s military command structure. “His death adds to a series of eliminations targeting Iran’s senior leadership and severely disrupts the chain of command,” said the Israeli military in a statement.
The targeted assassination underscores the intensifying shadow war between Israel and Iran, as both sides continue exchanging deadly strikes amid heightened regional tensions.
