CM Stalin Reviews Key Urban Civic Projects in Tamil Nadu’s Municipal Corporations and Municipalities

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, chaired a review meeting today (17.07.2025) at the Secretariat in Chennai, focusing on the basic civic infrastructure projects undertaken across 25 Municipal Corporations and 144 Municipalities in the state, particularly in the areas of urban governance and water supply.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of accelerating the completion of major infrastructure initiatives, such as stormwater drainage, drinking water systems, underground sewer networks, and road improvement works in urban local bodies. He instructed officials to ensure that these projects are completed on schedule and made fully operational for public benefit.

The Chief Minister pointed out that in the last four years, projects worth over ₹8,000 crore covering more than 15,000 kilometers of road upgrades and essential infrastructure improvements have been carried out. This includes the Chengalpattu railway line extension, new drinking water projects, and expanded stormwater drainage networks.

During the meeting, it was reported that 3,199 new projects in corporations and 4,972 projects in municipalities will be launched. The Chief Minister urged that all remaining and ongoing works be expedited and completed before the onset of the northeast monsoon. He emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination, especially involving the electricity board, drinking water authorities, and municipal officials.

Further, he instructed that stormwater drains be cleaned in advance and water flow pathways be cleared to prevent flooding, with priority given to low-lying and flood-prone areas.
