‘Livelihood Development Programme’ to Benefit 5,000 Families in Gadchiroli – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Aspirational Talukas to Be Empowered

Mumbai : In a major step towards empowering the aspirational talukas of Gadchiroli district, the ‘Livelihood Development Programme’ is being implemented under the initiative of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The programme covers 49 villages and will be carried out in active collaboration with the Axis Bank Foundation. The project commenced on January 1, 2025, and a provision of ₹20.34 crore has been made for the next three years. This initiative is expected to facilitate the holistic development of 5,000 beneficiary families.

The government has prioritized improving the standard of living and providing employment opportunities to the local population of Gadchiroli. In response to this objective, the Axis Bank Foundation has extended its active support to implement the Livelihood Development Programme in the district. The key goals of the project include promoting climate-resilient sustainable agriculture, improving livelihoods, uplifting living standards, and ensuring overall community welfare.

The programme will primarily focus on agriculture-based livelihoods, natural resource management, non-farm livelihood interventions, collective entrepreneurship, and improvements in health and nutrition.

As of June 30, 2025, around 2,000 families have been enrolled in the programme. A total of 66 farm ponds have been desilted, enhancing their water retention capacity. These ponds support integrated farming systems that include fish farming, poultry, and irrigation using the same water. This model not only increases agricultural productivity but also provides diversified income sources for rural households.

By the end of the 2027–28 financial year, the participating families are expected to witness significant benefits from the project. Their incomes are projected to double compared to their current levels. Agricultural productivity will improve, thereby opening up more livelihood opportunities. Farmer groups will be encouraged to adopt collective procurement and marketing systems, and awareness campaigns on nutrition and health are expected to bring about notable improvements in the overall quality of life.
