Joint Secretary, Nec, Ministry Of Doner Pu Angshuman Dey Visits Champhai

Champhai, Aug 2025: Pu Angshuman Dey, Joint Secretary, North Eastern Council (NEC), Ministry of DoNER, held a meeting yesterday afternoon with District Agriculture Management Committee (DAMC) members and farmers at the Circuit House Conference Hall, Champhai.

The meeting was chaired by Pi Ramdinliani, Special Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, Horticulture & Agriculture Department, and was also attended by Pu Mohammad Aaquib, Deputy Commissioner of Champhai, along with DAMC members.

Speaking at the meeting, the Joint Secretary expressed his pleasure in visiting Champhai and appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by DAMC. He stated that the activities and programs implemented by Champhai District DAMC and local farmers were noteworthy. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by the DAMC and the farmers, and assured that the Central Government is actively working to support development in India’s northeastern region.

He highlighted that the cultivation of new crops in Mizoram, particularly soybean, is a positive step and one of the initiatives that showcases Mizoram’s potential. He stressed that Mizoram’s agricultural development is not just for the state, but is also significant in the broader context of contributing to India’s overall growth. Therefore, efforts need to be scaled up and sustained.

The Joint Secretary encouraged farmers to continue their hard work with determination, and assured them of Government support through proper planning and assistance, even without subsidies, so that they can achieve long-term sustainability. He emphasized the need for sincerity and innovation in agricultural activities and called for Mizoram’s farmers to set an example for others in India, serving as both role models and motivators.

After the meeting, the Joint Secretary also visited several important facilities, including:

• Tlangsam Grape Winery
• Passion Fruit Processing Unit
• Cold Storage Complex, New Champhai

He was accompanied during the visit by Pu Shashank Sonik, DoNER Consultant; Dr. Jenny Zoremtluangi, Deputy Director, Horticulture Department; and Pu H. Lalengzauva, Research Officer, P&PID.
