State Government Committed to Farmers’ Prosperity: Minister Lakshmi Rajwade

Foundation Laid for Reservoir Renovation Works in Lanjit, Raisra, and Sambalpur

Raipur, Oct 2025 : The State Government is fully committed to ensuring the prosperity of farmers and expanding irrigation facilities, said Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Lakshmi Rajwade, while inaugurating the foundation-laying ceremonies for reservoir renovation works held today in the villages of Lanjit, Raisra, and Sambalpur (Semra) in Surajpur district.

Speaking at the main event organized in Lanjit village, Minister Rajwade said that the renovation of reservoirs will ensure sustainable water availability for farmers, giving new direction and momentum to agricultural production.

She emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, the state government is dedicated to the holistic development of rural areas, with a focus on increasing farmers’ income and expanding irrigation infrastructure.

Constructed in 1986, the Lanjit reservoir is nearly 39 years old and has been a vital source of irrigation for Kharif crops in the region. The dam is 435 meters long, with a storage capacity of 24.95 million cubic feet. Two canals emerge from the reservoir— the left canal is 1,650 meters long, and the right canal is 3,390 meters long.

Once the renovation work is completed, the reservoir will achieve its designated irrigation capacity of 240 hectares, benefiting a larger number of farmers in the area. The state government has approved ₹258.55 lakh for the renovation and repair of the reservoir.

A large number of local representatives, panchayat officials, and officers and employees from the Water Resources Department and other departments attended the event along with villagers.

Later, Minister Rajwade also participated in a Jeevandeep Committee meeting held at Bhaiyathan, where she discussed measures to improve the quality of healthcare services in the region.
