Senior AIADMK Leader K.A. Sengottaiyan Likely to Join Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam

Chennai, Nov 2025 : Former Tamil Nadu Minister and veteran AIADMK politician K.A. Sengottaiyan appears to be moving closer to joining actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), following a series of dramatic developments within the AIADMK over the past few days.

Sengottaiyan, a nine-time MLA and one of AIADMK’s most experienced strategists, had been engaged in an increasingly public confrontation with party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS). The rift escalated after EPS set a deadline for “uniting the AIADMK,” a directive Sengottaiyan openly opposed. In response, EPS removed him from all organisational responsibilities, further deepening the discord.

Tensions intensified when Sengottaiyan met former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) and AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran at Pasumpon, a move perceived as a direct challenge by the EPS camp. Following this, Sengottaiyan was expelled even from AIADMK’s primary membership, leaving him deeply dissatisfied and prompting him to explore alternative political alignments.

For several days, speculation had been mounting that Sengottaiyan might resign from the Assembly and formally join TVK. The rumours gained traction on Wednesday when he met Speaker M. Appavu at the Chennai Secretariat and officially resigned as the MLA of Gobichettipalayam, triggering intense political chatter about his next move.

Simultaneously, TVK chief Vijay and party general secretary N. Anand were holding high-level discussions at Vijay’s Pattinapakkam residence. According to party insiders, these deliberations were likely focused on integrating Sengottaiyan into a key organisational role within TVK.

In a significant development, the newly resigned MLA visited Vijay’s Pattinapakkam home on Wednesday afternoon. Sources confirmed that Sengottaiyan held detailed, private discussions with the actor-politician regarding his political future and the prospects of joining TVK. The timing is critical, as the party gears up for its first major electoral contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

For TVK, bringing in a senior leader of Sengottaiyan’s stature—renowned for his organisational acumen and electoral strategy—would be a substantial boost. Political analysts suggest that his induction could help the party consolidate support among seasoned AIADMK cadres while enhancing its electoral credibility.

All indications now point to Sengottaiyan’s imminent formal entry into Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, marking one of the most notable political realignments in the state ahead of the upcoming polls. An official announcement is expected soon, which could significantly alter the dynamics of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
