New Education Policy 2020 Lays Foundation for India as World Guru: Assembly Speaker at National Seminar

Jaipur, Dec 8: The New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a vibrant vision and the lifeblood of the nation’s development. It is not merely a document on paper but the foundation for making India a world teacher. It will prepare a new generation imbued with the principle of “Nation First,” said Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani on Monday. He spoke as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the National Convention and Seminar organized by the Non-Teaching Staff Union at Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, on the topic of public representatives’ participation in NEP.

Devnani mentioned that he contributed alongside Kasturirangan in finalizing the new policy. Public representatives provide suggestions tailored to local needs, increasing the authenticity of policymaking. The NEP eliminates the colonial-era focus on rote learning and marks, emphasizing education in the mother tongue and incorporating elements suited to the child’s needs. The policy also emphasizes developing the foundational infrastructure of universities.

Three Resolutions Proposed:
Devnani requested the staff union to adopt three resolutions during the three-day event:

  1. All universities in Rajasthan will implement NEP 2020 provisions by 2026.
  2. Non-teaching staff will be placed at the center of the education system, fostering ideal relationships between public representatives and universities.
  3. Universities should focus on citizen preparation and employment-oriented education while avoiding being centers of politics, making NEP implementation easier.

Professor Kailash Sodhani, advisor to the Governor, highlighted NEP’s benefits for students and stressed its implementation. University Vice-Chancellor Professor B.P. Saraswat requested the state government to fill vacant academic and non-academic posts and provide infrastructure funding for NEP implementation. Bharat Vyas, Executive President of the All India University Staff Union, expressed concern over the declining staff numbers at the university. Finally, President Praveen Singh Sarangdevot discussed the link between NEP and Indian education policy, assuring that staff would provide positive support at all levels for NEP implementation.
