Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann Orders Immediate Release of ₹68.98 Crore to Upgrade Punjab’s Major Medical Colleges
Chandigarh, December 2025 :Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed the immediate release of ₹68.98 crore to upgrade the state’s major medical colleges, with the aim of providing standard medical treatment and improved diagnostic facilities to the public.
Chairing a review meeting of the Department of Medical Education and Research here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that expanding and strengthening facilities in these medical colleges had become an urgent necessity to ensure better healthcare services along with advanced medical testing. He emphasized that these institutions must be equipped with ultra-modern and world-class machinery so that patients receive high-quality medical care. He instructed the Medical Education Department to release ₹68.98 crore without delay for upgrading facilities in these colleges.

Detailing the allocation, the Chief Minister said that ₹26.53 crore would be released for Government Medical College, Amritsar; ₹28.51 crore for Government Medical College, Patiala; ₹9.43 crore for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali); and ₹4.51 crore for the PGI Satellite Centre, Ferozepur. He said the funds would be utilized for procuring modern machines and equipment, as well as for carrying out developmental works in the medical colleges. Reiterating the government’s commitment, Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Punjab government is determined to develop the state into a global hub of medical education, which will further strengthen treatment and diagnostic services.
The Chief Minister stressed that all upgradation work must be completed in a time-bound and transparent manner so that people can access quality healthcare at affordable rates. He noted that Punjab has a long-standing tradition of producing world-class doctors, and even today a large number of students in the state are pursuing medical education. He said it is the responsibility of the state government to ensure standard education in medical colleges so that medical students benefit on a large scale.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said the sole objective behind revamping these medical colleges is to ensure access to quality healthcare services for the people. He added that strengthening healthcare facilities in these key institutions would directly contribute to the welfare of the common man. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that the state government remains fully committed to this public welfare initiative and will make every possible effort to ensure its successful implementation.
Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, Additional Chief Secretary Alok Shekhar, Principal Secretary Health Kumar Rahul, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Ravi Bhagat, and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
