Teachers Have the Power to Change the World: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

Mumbai : Honorable Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized that the dedication, guidance, and contribution of teachers play a crucial role in shaping students’ lives, and they possess the power to change the world. He noted that Maharashtra leads the nation in various fields and called for similar leadership in the education sector.

Today, teachers selected for the Kranti Jyoti Savitrimai Phule State Teacher Merit Award for 2023-24 were honored at an event held at Tata Auditorium, NCPA. Present at the event were Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narvekar, School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Principal Secretary of the School Education Department I.A. Kundan, School Education Commissioner Suraj Mandhare, and State Project Director of the Maharashtra Primary Education Council R. Vimala, along with other dignitaries.

During the event, Minister Kesarkar’s work report and the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Smriti Granth, compiled by Balbharti, were released.

The Chief Minister remarked that the country cannot progress without the contributions of teachers, which is why the new National Education Policy has been adopted. He emphasized that the government supports innovative ideas to keep Maharashtra at the forefront of education. A new teaching approach that incorporates practical skills alongside textbook knowledge has been introduced to help students achieve great success, with teachers guiding them at the right moments.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that three world records were achieved through the “My School, Sundar School” initiative, and teachers play a key role in building ideal schools. He assured that the issues faced by teaching and non-teaching staff will be addressed promptly, noting that government schools have played a significant part in helping Maharashtra achieve its number-one position in education. Recalling his own school days, he mentioned the influence of teacher Raghunath Parab on his personal development and praised teachers for their role in helping students succeed.

Adv. Narvekar commented that while “If you read, you will succeed” is often said, it is the teachers who build society by teaching students to read, making their contribution essential. He added that the government’s prioritization of the education sector will help India become the world’s largest economy.

Maharashtra Will Excel: Deepak Kesarkar

School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar noted that teachers are key to improving the quality of education in Maharashtra. He mentioned several important decisions made by the School Education Department, ensuring that students, teachers, and schools receive necessary support from the government. The phased subsidy implementation has integrated teachers into the mainstream, and a decision will soon be made to implement this phase from June rather than December. Currently, 30,000 teachers are being recruited in the first phase. Issues affecting non-teaching staff, including librarians, have also been resolved, and a positive decision regarding teachers’ pensions has been made. Teachers will now be exempt from non-teaching duties, except for elections and censuses.

Minister Kesarkar also announced that the government has decided to provide free education to all female students, along with uniforms, shoes, and socks for all students up to Class VIII. Eggs, bananas, and cereals are being provided as part of the nutrition program, and the Parsbag scheme is being implemented to offer nutritious food while educating students about agriculture. The paperwork burden on students has been reduced, and vocational education is being emphasized. Job opportunities in Germany are being made available, and under the Mahawachan Utsav Abhiyan, one lakh schools and one crore students are set to participate.

Ms. Kundan expressed her gratitude, stating that teachers are the pillars of society. Today, 109 teachers were honored with awards, and two teachers from the state received the National Teacher Award. She noted that teachers consistently contribute to various initiatives of the School Education Department, with their challenges addressed through departmental support.

Mr. Mandhare provided insights into the teacher awards, stating that teachers remain timeless figures for their students, always guiding them. He added that many teachers have set records in various fields.

State Exemplary Teacher Awards are presented annually to encourage and honor teachers who have selflessly and devotedly served society and demonstrated excellence in the field of education.
