State Disaster Response Force Training Inaugurated at 1st IR Bn Mualvum
Kolasib : The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Training, organized for various Mizoram Police Battalions, was officially inaugurated today at the 1st IR Bn Mualvum by the Director of Disaster Management & Rehabilitation, Pu R. Vanrengpuia.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Director emphasized the importance of such training for police personnel currently in service. He stated that it is crucial for police officers to be well-prepared to respond effectively to emergencies for the welfare of the public. He specifically urged the 30 police officers selected for the training to take it seriously, as it is vital for protecting communities in times of disaster. While many people instinctively come together to help during disasters, some situations require specialized knowledge and skills, making proper training essential.
The event was led by Joint Director (Operations) Pu Lalchunglura. He expressed his appreciation for the police’s dedication and noted that the training is already being successfully conducted in four battalions, with further sessions planned.
Deputy Director Dr. Lalrokima Chenkual, in his remarks, mentioned that since 2010, over 800 police personnel have been trained in various disaster response skills. However, with many of them now retired or close to retirement, only around 450 trained individuals are still actively available in Mizoram. Therefore, the department has started the process of training an additional 188 personnel from September of this year to strengthen the force.
The training will include both Quick Response Team (QRT) preparation and Adventure Sports skills. After completing three days of initial training, participants will continue their training under the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). They will receive both theoretical and practical instruction.
As part of the disaster response training, they will learn techniques for search and rescue, providing essential aid, administering first aid, and effectively using necessary equipment.
