Power Minister And P&E Department Officials Discuss Improvement Measures
Aizawl : On the afternoon of September 24, 2024, Power Minister Pu F. Rodingliana held a meeting with officials of the Power and Electricity (P&E) Department in his office chamber. The discussions focused on measures to reduce energy losses and improve revenue collection.
In this meeting, Superintending Engineers from different circles gave power point presentations on how consumers in their respective areas were being billed and the steps being taken to improve bill collection. The meeting highlighted the importance of timely payment by consumers, proper electric connections as per regulations, and accurate meter readings.
Emphasis was placed on the need to educate consumers about the importance of paying their electricity bills on time and ensuring that electrical connections are safe and legal. Officials also discussed ways to further streamline meter reading practices.
The meeting addressed the ongoing installation of new power lines and transformers, acknowledging the temporary inconvenience faced by consumers due to disruptions in the power supply. They discussed measures to minimize power outages and ensure more efficient service.
Concerns were raised about some government departments that have not paid their power bills, negatively affecting the department’s performance report. Discussions also focused on how to collaborate with other departments to address this issue.
The issue of outsourcing was also brought up, particularly regarding the management of power distribution in Suangpuilawn and Phuaibuang villages. The department stressed the need for careful monitoring and evaluation of these outsourced services.
To improve power distribution and billing accuracy in the Aizawl area, plans are being made to closely monitor connected loads and Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI) readings for high-usage consumers.
The meeting was attended by Pi K. Lalrinzuali, Power Secretary, Pu H. Zonunsanga, Engineer-in-Chief, and Chief Engineers along with Superintending Engineers overseeing Power Circles.
