Electoral Commission of Ireland Delegation Interacts with Chief Electoral Officer
Mumbai : A delegation of high-level officials from the Electoral Commission of Ireland visited the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the State today. During this occasion, Chief Electoral Officer S. Chokkalingam engaged with the delegation.
India is recognized as the largest democracy in the world, and the office of the State Election Officer, under the Election Commission of India, is conducting the Assembly General Election 2024 in the state in a rigorous and well-planned manner. Chief Electoral Officer S. Chokkalingam informed the delegation about the total number of voters in the state, facilities provided for voters, and voter awareness initiatives.
Present at the meeting were Chief Electoral Chairperson of the Election Commission of Ireland, Mrs. Justice Mary Baker; Chief Executive Officer Ort O’Leary; Consul General Mrs. Anita Kelly; Arman Srivastava of the Embassy of Ireland; Additional Chief Electoral Officer of the State Electoral Department Dr. Kiran Kulkarni; Additional Chief Electoral Officer P. Pradeep; Joint Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Vijay Rathod; and Deputy Secretary K. Suryakrishnamurthy.
Chief Electoral Officer S. Chokkalingam provided insights into the elections in India, detailing the powers and functions of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in the state. He explained that elections for local bodies are conducted independently by the State Election Commission. He covered various topics, including the state’s population, assembly constituencies, total polling stations, the election process, EVMs, VVPAT machines, ballot units, law and order, political parties, and the code of conduct. Additionally, he highlighted initiatives aimed at increasing voter turnout and the various apps and portals developed by the Commission using modern technology in the electoral process.
The Irish delegation wished Chief Electoral Officer S. Chokkalingam and the entire electoral system a successful conduct of the Assembly General Election.
