Peshawar High Court Grants Interim Bail to Bushra Bibi Until December 23

The Peshawar High Court has approved interim bail for Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, effective until December 23. Justice Waqar Ahmed made the ruling during a hearing on her request for corridor bail across multiple cases. Represented by her lawyer Alam Khan Adeen Zai, Bushra Bibi is facing legal challenges in 27 separate cases.

During the hearing, the Additional Attorney General emphasized the necessity of her court appearances as stipulated by the law. To facilitate this, Justice Ahmed granted interim bail, ensuring her participation in ongoing court proceedings. However, her lawyer’s plea for an extended period of bail, citing her involvement in over 50 cases, was declined due to the court’s impending winter recess.

This decision comes in the wake of a non-bailable arrest warrant issued by an Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad for Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan, and several PTI leaders. The charges stem from allegations of rioting and violence during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests in Islamabad, which escalated into deadly clashes. The unrest claimed six lives, including members of law enforcement, with both PTI and government officials offering conflicting narratives about the events.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan, currently detained in Adiala Jail, continues to face multiple legal hurdles. The protests, which he had called to press for political reforms, have further complicated the legal and political challenges surrounding him and his party.
