MGUG should set an example for higher education institutions: CM Yogi
Gorakhpur : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also serves as the Chancellor of Mahayogi Gorakhnath University (MGUG), has urged the university’s faculty to adopt contemporary and effective teaching methodologies while working with full dedication to ensure a bright future for students.
Highlighting the university’s abundant resources and rapid progress, he emphasized that MGUG should aim to become a model institution for higher education in Uttar Pradesh and across the country.
During his visit to the university on Sunday evening, CM Yogi reviewed ongoing arrangements and discussed plans with the university administration and faculty.
He noted that MGUG’s academic infrastructure is evolving into a world-class ecosystem. A state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,475 is nearing completion, and plans are in place to construct a stadium with a capacity 9,500.
Expressing satisfaction over the university’s swift achievements since its inauguration by former President Ram Nath Kovind on August 28, 2021, CM Yogi praised MGUG for launching significant programs like MBBS and BAMS within just four years. The nursing college is already well-regarded, and the university is leading in implementing key aspects of the National Education Policy.
During the review, Dr. Anurag Srivastava, Principal of Gorakhnath Medical College, shared that nearly two dozen programs—from diploma to postgraduate level—are offered across disciplines such as medical science, nursing, paramedical, agriculture, allied health sciences, and pharmacy.
A BBA program in Logistics has also been launched. The MBBS program began last session with 100 seats. All the courses are designed to be employment-oriented and highly relevant to current industry needs. Plans are underway to increase MBBS intake further.
Dr Giridhar Vedantam, Principal of the Ayurveda College, added that MGUG’s Ayurveda program is among the top choices for students pursuing the BAMS course, with all seats typically filled in the first round of counselling. He added, “The Panchkarma Center, affiliated with the Ayurveda College, is equipped with premier facilities comparable to the best in South India.”
After hearing presentations from the Principals of the Medical and Ayurveda Colleges, Chief Minister and MGUG Chancellor Yogi Adityanath emphasized that India is on the path to becoming a global hub for medical tourism. He noted that medical tourism is poised to surpass other forms of tourism in importance and scale and stressed the need for MGUG to start preparing in this direction.
Highlighting the importance of future readiness, CM Yogi underlined the need to integrate medical education with cutting-edge technology. He called on the faculty to analyze global healthcare trends and design the curriculum to meet international demands, emphasising modern, industry-relevant courses.
During the visit, CM Yogi reviewed the admission strategy for the current academic session and assessed the facilities available to students. He reiterated that students must have access to world-class infrastructure aligned with their academic needs. Additionally, he proposed developing a distinct and positive campus culture through a well-defined code of conduct fostering healthy faculty-student relations.
MGUG Vice Chancellor Dr. Surinder Singh briefed the Chief Minister on the university’s initiatives, including launching several employment-oriented courses and a robust network of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with prestigious national and international institutions. These partnerships span education, medicine, agriculture, rural development, and entrepreneurship.
Key MoU partners include the International Rice Research Institute, Lumbini Buddhist University (Nepal), South Bihar Central University, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, AIIMS Gorakhpur, KGMU Lucknow, RMRC Gorakhpur, Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (Ahmedabad), Vaidyanath Ayurveda, Indo-European Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (Lucknow), National Botanical Research Institute, National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, Indian Institute of Seed Science, Jubilant Agriculture Rural Development Society, and the Logistics Sector Skill Council.
Through these collaborations, MGUG is actively promoting world-class research, fostering innovation, and encouraging the growth of startups across diverse sectors.
On this occasion, Dr Rohit Patni, Director of Gorakhnath Hospital Balapar affiliated to MGUG, Dr DS Ajitha, principal of Nursing College, Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, and Dr Shashikant Singh, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, were prominently present.
Along with reviewing the academic work and future action plan, CM Yogi inspected the ongoing construction work at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University. During this time, he instructed to pay special attention to the quality of the construction work and complete it on time.
