No More License Required for Petrol Pumps in Chhattisgarh

Opening a Petrol Pump Now Made Easier

Raipur : In a major decision, the Chhattisgarh government has eliminated the requirement for a state-level license to operate petroleum retail outlets, i.e., petrol pumps. This change has been implemented through a notification issued by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection on 14 November 2024. Now, entrepreneurs only need to comply with the provisions of the Central Petroleum Act to set up a petrol pump. The earlier dual-approval process has been removed, simplifying the procedure.

What Has Changed and Why It Matters

Previously, to start a petrol pump, businesses had to obtain a purchase and sale license from the Food Department through the District Collector. This license had to be renewed every year or every three years. The dual approval process from both the state and the center resulted in increased costs, time delays, and paperwork. Now, following only the central regulations is sufficient. This will ease the burden on entrepreneurs and make the process of opening a petrol pump faster and more affordable. This is a major step towards promoting business and simplifying regulations in Chhattisgarh.

Benefits for Entrepreneurs

With fewer paperwork requirements and the need for approval from only one authority, petrol pumps can now be opened more quickly. New business owners, especially small entrepreneurs and oil companies, will be able to start operations with minimal hassle. This reform will encourage the establishment of petrol pumps in rural and remote areas where access to fuel is currently limited.

Benefits for the State and the Public

The change will improve fuel availability across Chhattisgarh, making petrol and diesel more accessible to the public—particularly in areas that currently have fewer petrol pumps. The opening of new pumps will also boost investment and infrastructure development in the state. This decision aligns with the government’s broader goal of enhancing ease of doing business and promoting economic growth.

Chhattisgarh Becoming a Business-Friendly State

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has stated that the Chhattisgarh government is committed to creating a favorable environment for businesses. By simplifying rules and removing unnecessary hurdles, the state is actively working to support industry, promote entrepreneurship, and attract investment. This move will not only benefit entrepreneurs but also ensure better services for the people. With this decision, opening a petrol pump in Chhattisgarh has become easier than ever. It will increase fuel accessibility across regions and strengthen the state’s economy.
