AR Land Advisory Committee Convenes Under Chief Minister Lalduhoma
Aizawl : The Advisory Committee on the use of land vacated by the Assam Rifles convened under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma.
The Chief Minister stated that the government had established this Advisory Committee to ensure the inclusion of various stakeholders, recognizing that the previous approach lacked broad representation. He acknowledged that most relevant parties are now represented and thanked the committee members for their participation.
During the meeting, discussions covered:
- Land documents received from the Mizoram Synod,
- Ongoing court cases related to private land ownership within the AR land area,
- Requests from the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), Government Planning Committee (GPC) of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, and various departments including Health, Power & Electricity (P&E), and Public Health Engineering (PHE).
A key agenda item was the proposal from the Health Department to utilize a portion of the vacated land to expand the Aizawl Civil Hospital Complex, particularly by relocating the Aizawl Police Station currently occupying the space. This proposal has been approved in principle and will undergo further evaluation.
The PHE Department also submitted a proposal for water storage infrastructure, including design suggestions for setting up water tanks at four designated locations. The committee agreed that designs should be finalized soon.
The committee further noted the importance of developing roads around the vacated land and agreed that the PWD would conduct a field assessment to explore viable road connectivity options for both residential and institutional use.
UD&PA Secretary Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau briefed the committee on the proposed Master Plan, highlighting a vision to establish a Culture & Nature Centre and other global-standard facilities. He explained that 52.57% of the entire AR vacated land is planned for public use and community recreation.
