One Person Arrested by Maharashtra GST Department in Fake Input Tax Credit Fraud and Tax Evasion Case
Mumbai, Aug 2025 : The Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department has arrested Vinay Rajesh Parekh (age 37), residing at A-402, Kunj Paradise, opposite ICICI Bank, Baroda, Gujarat-390002, for availing fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) amounting to ₹29.88 crore and committing tax evasion.
This arrest is a part of the ongoing investigation into the firm M/s Angel Ply & Lam. The department has launched a special campaign against such tax evaders who create fake invoices without actual supply of goods or services to illegally claim ITC benefits. This constitutes a serious violation under the Maharashtra/Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
Vinay Rajesh Parekh is the proprietor of M/s Angel Ply & Lam, through which a fake ITC worth approximately ₹29.88 crore was availed. Following his arrest, Parekh was produced before the Hon’ble Metropolitan Magistrate, Esplanade Court, which remanded him to judicial custody until August 18, 2025.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Assistant State Tax Commissioner (D-313) Nitinchandra G. Patil and Assistant State Tax Commissioner (D-315) Ramesh U. Avghade, along with state tax inspectors from DC-E-0303 Unit.
The Maharashtra GST Department has once again reiterated its firm stance on taking stringent action against fake ITC frauds. The State Tax Department appeals to all taxpayers to strictly adhere to GST laws and warns against engaging in any form of tax evasion. Strict actions will continue against those involved in fraudulent activities, the department said in its press release.
