Supreme Court Refuses to Halt India-Pakistan Asia Cup Clash

New Delhi, Sept 2025 : The Supreme Court of India on Thursday declined to entertain a plea seeking cancellation of the upcoming India-Pakistan T20 match in the Asia Cup, scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium. The bench, comprising Justice J.K. Maheshwari and Justice Vijay Bishnoi, observed that the match should be allowed to go ahead as planned.

The petition, filed by four law students, argued that holding the match shortly after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor was against national dignity and dishonored the memory of martyrs. The plea also called for the immediate implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025. It was filed through advocates Sneha Rani, Abhishek Verma, and Mohammad Anas Chaudhary.

The petitioners pressed for urgent listing, noting that the high-profile encounter is scheduled for Sunday and requesting that the matter be heard on Friday. However, the bench refused to advance the hearing, dismissing the request for immediate intervention.

India’s Dominant Start in Asia Cup

India have begun their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a commanding nine-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates, setting the stage for the much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Bowling first, India’s attack dismantled the UAE batting order, dismissing them for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs. The evening belonged to the spinners. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for just 7 runs in 2.1 overs. All-rounder Shivam Dube chipped in with three wickets, while Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy claimed one apiece. Jasprit Bumrah struck early blows, keeping the pressure on with his accuracy and pace. The only resistance came from opener Alishan Sharafu, who scored 22 off 17 balls.

Chasing a modest target of 58, India’s batters wasted no time. Abhishek Sharma played a blistering knock of 30 from 16 balls, laced with two fours and three sixes. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 20 off nine deliveries, while skipper Suryakumar Yadav added finishing touches with two powerful strokes. India sealed the win in just 4.3 overs, finishing with an extraordinary run rate of 13.33.

Spotlight on September 14 Showdown

With their opening win, India have sent a strong signal ahead of their clash with Pakistan, which remains the highlight of the group stage. The match is scheduled for September 14 at 8 p.m. IST in Dubai, and despite the petition, the Supreme Court’s refusal clears the way for the marquee contest to proceed without legal hurdles.
