Great Opportunities for Development in Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Sector in Maharashtra – CM Fadnavis

Meeting on Fisheries Reforms and Long-Term Development

Mumbai, Sept 2025 : There are immense opportunities for development in the fisheries and animal husbandry sector. A program on the lines of Andhra Pradesh should be implemented in Maharashtra covering fisheries, animal husbandry, agriculture, and construction, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Fadnavis at Varsha Residence for the overall development of the fisheries sector in the state. The meeting included detailed discussions on fisheries in the state, its growth, financial provisions, and the formulation of long, medium, and short-term goals.

Animal Husbandry and Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore, Pravin Pardeshi of ‘Maitri’ organization, Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Secretary, Commissioner of the concerned departments, and senior officials were present.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that fisheries are the main livelihood for lakhs of families in rural and coastal areas. There are enormous opportunities for economic growth in this sector, and emphasis is being placed on creating a comprehensive policy. Today’s presentation showed a clear path of development, and by 2047, the growth of this sector can drive the state towards becoming a developed economy. He also highlighted the important role of women in contributing to this development.

The Chief Minister further said that a Vision Management Unit should be established to make planning and implementation in the fisheries sector more effective. A vision document prepared with the participation of experts, officials, and local stakeholders in the state will be useful for fisheries development and must be implemented quickly. Financial provisions for the growth of fisheries will also be increased, he assured.

Animal Husbandry and Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, and Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore put forth their suggestions regarding various schemes, projects, and infrastructure development.

On this occasion, discussions were also held on the development opportunities in different sectors of the state, as well as the measures and strategic reforms required for achieving a trillion-dollar economy.
