For the first time in the state, DCM Vijay Sharma celebrated Diwali with cleanliness workers and commandos
Raipur, Oct 2025 : For the first time in Chhattisgarh, on the occasion of Diwali, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA from Kawardha, Shri Vijay Sharma, set an inspiring example by honoring the city’s cleanliness workers. At his Kawardha residence, he invited around 200 sanitation workers — known as Swachhta Didis and Commandos — for a special breakfast gathering, where he warmly presented them with gifts, sweets, and firecrackers as tokens of appreciation.
This event, held on Diwali day, was the first of its kind in the state, organized as a tribute to the “cleanliness warriors” who keep the city clean every day. On this occasion, District Panchayat President Shri Ishwari Sahu, Municipal Council President Shri Chandra Prakash Chandravanshi, Shri Veer Singh Patel, Shri Shiv Agrawal, CMO Shri Rohit Sahu, several public representatives, sanitation workers, and commandos were present in large numbers.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that the true meaning of Diwali is not only to decorate our homes with lamps but also to honor the hands that keep our cities clean and beautiful. He remarked, “Sanitation workers are the ‘lamps of cleanliness’ in our society. Just as a lamp dispels darkness, these dedicated warriors remove dirt and disorder from our lives.”
He emphasized that the Swachhta Didis and brothers have made a major contribution to the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) at the ground level. Shri Sharma urged municipal officials and public representatives to maintain regular communication with sanitation workers and appreciate their invaluable work.
During the event, several sanitation workers expressed that the honor given by the Deputy Chief Minister was deeply motivating and had greatly boosted their morale. They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining cleanliness in the city and extended their Diwali greetings to Shri Sharma. All the workers collectively thanked their local MLA and Deputy Chief Minister for this thoughtful gesture.
Residents and social organizations of Kawardha also warmly praised Shri Sharma’s initiative, saying that the people most deserving of respect are those who silently rise before dawn every day to keep the city clean. All attendees at the event wholeheartedly appreciated the tireless efforts of these sanitation workers.
Concluding the event, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma stated, “Today’s program was not merely a gift distribution ceremony, but a strong message about recognizing the dignity and importance of cleanliness workers in our society. It reaffirms that the real lamps of Diwali are those who, through their deeds, bring light into others’ lives.”
