NITI Aayog Delegation Visits Superintendent of Police Office

Information Taken on the ‘SindhuPrahari’ System
Transport Department Also Gave a Presentation

Sindhudurg, Oct 2025 : Sindhudurg district has begun effectively using Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems in administration, and a special team from NITI Aayog—linked to the Prime Minister’s Office—is on a visit to study this model in depth. Members of the delegation, Dr. Devvrat Tyagi and Vidisha Das, visited the District Superintendent of Police (SP) office. During the visit, they gathered detailed information on how the Police Department and the Road Transport Department are using AI-based systems. Present on the occasion were Chief Executive Officer Ravindra Khebudkar, District Superintendent of Police Dr. Mohan Dahikar, Additional SP Naomi Satam, Deputy Collector Balaji Shevale, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Shripad Patil, Tehsildar Dikshant Deshpande, among others.

At the beginning of the meeting, District SP Dr. Mohan Dahikar gave a detailed presentation. He explained the AI-based initiative ‘SindhuPrahari’ developed for coastal security. Under the guidance of Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane, the district police force has adopted an advanced AI-enabled smart security system, marking a new step in strengthening the security framework. This system enables faster identification of unknown faces, immediate alerts, enhanced coastal surveillance, and crime prevention. With all data stored digitally, investigation and analysis have become more accurate. Automated monitoring has also ensured efficient use of manpower and resources. Dr. Dahikar informed the delegation that this technology has made the district police system more responsive, alert, and capable.

Deputy Regional Transport Officer Vijay Kale spoke about how AI can help overcome challenges arising from the district’s geographical features, climate-related issues, manpower shortages, and communication gaps to ensure uninterrupted transportation services. His presentation showcased how CCTV cameras are being used to identify two-wheeler and four-wheeler riders who violate safety norms, enabling faceless challan (fine) issuance.

He also presented plans for future stages, where this AI-based system could notify emergency services (police, ambulance, fire brigade, nearest PHC, blood bank) during accidents and assist in monitoring accident-prone areas.

After reviewing the detailed information, the NITI Aayog delegation expressed satisfaction with the AI systems being implemented in the district.
