CM Bhajanlal Sharma Orders Strict Action on Drunk Driving, Illegal Highway Cuts, and Overloading; Launches 15-Day Road Safety Campaign

Jaipur, Nov 2025 : Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that the State Government is continuously working to strengthen and make the traffic and road safety system more effective across Rajasthan. He directed the Transport, Police, and Public Works Departments to jointly conduct a 15-day Road Safety Campaign across the state starting Tuesday (4 November). He said that all concerned departments must work together to ensure compliance with traffic rules and prevent loss of life in road accidents.

Chairing a high-level meeting on traffic and road safety at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday, he instructed district collectors—who have not been holding regular meetings of the District Road Safety Committees—to provide an explanation. He also directed that if eye test reports submitted during heavy vehicle license renewal are found incorrect, disciplinary action should be taken against the concerned doctor.

License to be Cancelled for Repeated Overspeeding & Drunk Driving
The Chief Minister instructed the Transport and Police Departments to cancel the driving licence of anyone caught drunk driving or receiving repeated challans for overspeeding. He also ordered the authorities to immediately repair identified black spots during the road safety campaign and shut all illegal cuts on national and state highways. He directed officials to identify land and develop new rest areas for drivers on the Jaipur–Kota, Jaipur–Delhi, Jaipur–Ajmer, and Jaipur–Bharatpur highways.

Strictest Action Against Illegal Dhabas and Parking
Sharma directed NHAI officials to remove all illegal structures and dhabas along the Bharatmala National Highways and Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor in Rajasthan. He instructed that all signage—especially those for rest areas, truck lay-bys, and slip lanes—on national and state highways must be placed correctly. He added that drivers stopping vehicles at undesignated locations on highways should be challaned. These activities are to be monitored by an officer of the Additional Director General of Police rank.

Strengthen Emergency Care for Accident Victims
The Chief Minister directed the Medical & Health Department to ensure that accident victims are transported to hospitals through Advanced Life Support ambulances. He also instructed that from 15 November to 15 February, eye check-ups must be conducted for truck drivers. Transportation companies should be held responsible—and face strict action—for forcing drivers into overtime driving. He also ordered the installation of reflectors at necessary locations due to foggy winter conditions and trimming of roadside trees and bushes.

Deploy Interceptors on Routes with High Traffic Violations
Sharma directed all district collectors and SPs to take special action to close illegal cuts and for the PWD to install railings at such locations on busy state highways. He instructed the Transport Department to take strict action against vehicles coming from the wrong direction on highways. He also ordered the deployment of interceptors to take action against drivers violating traffic rules.

Strict Action in No-Entry Zones
The Chief Minister ordered strict action against heavy vehicles entering no-entry zones at prohibited times and directed a fresh review of no-entry areas and timings. He asked the Jaipur Police Commissioner to prepare a plan to improve night-time traffic arrangements in the city and send it to the Chief Minister’s Office. The number of traffic police personnel in Jaipur should be increased as required.

Sharma instructed the Transport, Police, and PWD departments to run regular awareness campaigns to ensure compliance with traffic rules and organize workshops for departmental staff. He added that citizens who help accident victims should be honoured. He also directed the removal of obstructions and encroachments from pedestrian pathways and stressed that rules must be strictly followed during new licence issuance and licence renewals. The Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, has been instructed to monitor these tasks.

Officials from the Transport, Home, Police, PWD, Medical & Health, Urban Development, JDA, NHAI, and other related departments attended the meeting.
