‘Critical Life Skills and Occupational Skill Development Training Programme’ Launched at Serchhip
Serchhip, Nov 2025: The Critical Life Skills and Occupational Skill Development Training Programme was launched at the Serchhip MODEL CENTRE. The programme was organized jointly by the Directorate of School Education and the Sub Headquarters YMA (Young Mizo Association) at the Serchhip Sub Headquarters YMA Conference Hall.
Speaking at the event, Pi R. Laltanpuii, Deputy Director (Adult Education), Directorate of School Education, said that although the School Education Department has previously introduced vocational training, the training being launched at the Serchhip MODEL CENTRE focuses on helping individuals earn income and gain practical experience from within their own households. She encouraged the trainees to fully utilize the training classes to develop real, employable skills. She emphasized that the government cannot provide jobs for everyone, so it is essential for individuals to become skilled, self-reliant, and capable of supporting their families. With this objective, the training programme has been launched.
The training programme will offer five different trades, namely:
- Plumbing (2 months)
- Beauty Culture (2 months)
- Baking Technology (1 month)
- House/Electric Wiring (2 months)
- Tailoring (2 months)
Each trade will enroll 8 trainees, and in addition, all participants from all trades will undergo a 1-month Critical Life Skills course.
The event was chaired by Pu J.R. Lalhruaitluanga, Serchhip District Education Officer.
Tv. Zonunsanga Kawlni, Secretary of Serchhip Sub Headquarters YMA, presented a report on the initiatives taken by the School Education Department and the Serchhip Sub-Hqrs YMA, as well as the activities of the Local Level Committee.
