“Delhi LG Plants Rudraksha in ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Drive”
Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, today planted a “Rudraksha” sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign organized by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Lodhi Garden. The sapling was planted in honor of his mother, Mrs. Vedavati Saxena. Joining him were Hon’ble Member of Parliament (New Delhi), Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC President, Mr. Naresh Kumar, Vice President, Mr. Satish Upadhyay, and Council Member, Mr. Girish Sachdeva, who also planted Rudraksha saplings at the event.
Later, the LG continued the tree plantation drive at his residence, where he was joined by Hon’ble Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Om Birla. This drive, conducted by NDMC, saw the participation of several central government ministers, Supreme Court and High Court judges, and other dignitaries, who planted saplings in honor of their mothers across the New Delhi area.
Union Ministers Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Hon’ble Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, Hon’ble MSME Minister, and Shri Kiren Rijiju, Hon’ble Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, also participated by planting Rudraksha and Champa saplings at their residences in New Delhi. NDMC member Smt. Vishakha Shailani planted a sapling at her residence alongside her mother.
Speaking at the event, Shri Saxena highlighted that the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, aims to enhance the green cover, reduce pollution, and preserve the environment. He praised the enthusiasm shown by government agencies and citizens in participating in the campaign, stating that collective efforts would strengthen Delhi’s green lungs and make the national capital a better place to live. He also congratulated NDMC for their tree plantation drive, during which more than 10,000 saplings of various species were planted by residents, NDMC employees, and other participants. A trained team of horticultural experts will maintain these Rudraksha plants to ensure their proper growth and survival. Shri Saxena added that local bodies, DDA, and other agencies aim to plant 7.6 million trees and shrubs across Delhi to further improve the city’s green cover.
