Lucknow, January 2026 : Under the guidance and leadership of Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh, an important initiative has been taken in the state’s council schools to take education beyond the limits of textbooks and connect it with values, culture, sports, and community participation. With the support of the School Management Committee (SMC), Annual Day and Sports Day events will be organized by the end of January in more than 1.32 lakh council schools and Kasturba Gandhi schools across the state.

The events will take place in more than 1.31 lakh council schools and 746 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ Schools. These events have become one of the largest educational-cultural campaigns undertaken by the state so far. In addition these initiatives are being considered an effective and far-sighted step towards developing council schools as active centers of the community, fostering self-confidence, discipline, and team spirit among children, and ensuring continuous growth in enrollment, attendance, and retention. The department has already issued instructions earlier for these events in PM SHRI schools.

Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said that by connecting education with values, culture, and sports, we are strengthening enrollment and attendance along with the all-round development of children.

During the Annual Day, to provide a platform for students’ creative, cultural, and intellectual talents, competitions such as drama, story writing, speech, debate, painting, rangoli, and poster making will be organized.

The programs will focus on the importance of education, regular attendance, and bringing out-of-school children back into the mainstream. In addition, exhibitions showcasing educational materials created by upper primary students under the ‘Learning by Doing’ approach will be organized.

Under the Sports Festival, 50- and 100-meter races will be organized for students of Classes 3 to 5, while 100- and 200-meter races will be held for students of Classes 5 to 8. A 4×100-meter relay race will also be conducted for children of all age groups. Wherever feasible, races or relay events for parents will be organized to encourage their participation.

Students showing outstanding performance in cultural and sports competitions will receive first, second, and third prizes. Those with the highest attendance in each class will be specially recognized.

To ensure the success of the program, personal invitations will be sent to the parents of all students. The involvement of gram panchayat representatives, public representatives, alumni, and local dignitaries will help strengthen dialogue and trust between the schools and the community.

Monica Rani, Director General, School Education said, “Annual Day and Sports Day will help build self-confidence, discipline, and a spirit of teamwork among students, while turning council schools into centers of community trust.”
