Eid al-Fitr Celebrated Across Saudi Arabia with Prayers, Traditions, and Festive Spirit

Riyadh/Makkah, March 2026 : Eid al-Fitr, one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, is being celebrated with deep devotion, joy, and vibrant traditions across Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom’s holiest cities—Mecca and Medina—became the focal point of global attention as worshippers from around the world gathered to offer special Eid prayers in a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

Eid celebrations began early Friday morning, with prayers offered just minutes after sunrise in accordance with the Umm al-Qura calendar. Even before dawn, mosques and open prayer grounds across cities, provinces, and villages were filled with worshippers dressed in traditional attire, reflecting unity and devotion. He emphasised that the true spirit of Eid lies not only in celebration but also in the purification of the heart, forgiveness, strengthening family ties, and supporting the underprivileged through Zakat al-Fitr. At the Prophet’s Mosque, Imam Sheikh Salah al-Budair echoed similar sentiments, highlighting patience, compassion, and the importance of avoiding conflict as essential Islamic values.

In the capital city of Riyadh, Eid prayers were led by senior officials, including Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman, who joined military and civilian personnel. Following the prayers, he conveyed greetings on behalf of King Salman and the Crown Prince, praising the armed forces for their role in maintaining national stability and safeguarding the country. Interior Minister Abdulaziz bin Saud also met with senior officials and commended security forces for ensuring peace and order during the festivities.

The holy city of Mecca also witnessed a large influx of Umrah pilgrims from across the globe, who experienced Eid in a uniquely spiritual setting. Many pilgrims described celebrating Eid in Mecca as a deeply emotional and transformative experience, combining religious devotion with cultural immersion.

In Mecca’s historic neighbourhoods, centuries-old traditions came alive as residents welcomed pilgrims with warmth and generosity. After morning prayers, streets filled with people greeting one another, sharing meals, and inviting visitors to join their celebrations. Traditional Saudi hospitality was on full display, with families serving Arabic coffee, sweets, and local delicacies such as “Dubiyaza” and “Meccan Halwa.”
