‘Self-Reliant Threads’: A Unique Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Jaipur, April 2026: A six-day skill development workshop titled ‘Self-Reliant Threads’ was successfully organized from April 1 to 6 by the Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikas Parishad in collaboration with Kamla Poddar Institute / NIF Global, Jaipur. A total of 35 women from self-help groups participated in the workshop.

The workshop concluded on Monday with a fashion show held at the KPG campus, where garments designed by the participants were showcased by models from the institute through a ramp walk.

During the training, the women received practical instruction in both traditional and modern design techniques. Under the guidance of expert trainers and students from KPG, the participants created tie-and-dye sarees, contemporary garments, appliqué-work dupattas, and quilted bags. The products reflected an impressive fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern design aesthetics.

The fashion show was the highlight of the entire training programme. Each product showcased the participants’ enhanced skills, innovative thinking, and understanding of sustainable design.

On the occasion, Rajeevika Project Director Preeti Singh, Director of Kamla Poddar Institute/NIF Global Jaipur Abhishek Poddar, Roma Poddar, and Rajeevika State Project Manager (Non-Farm Livelihood) Dr Ramanika Kaur were present. All the guests encouraged the participants and appreciated their work.

It is noteworthy that the initiative was conducted under Rajeevika’s ‘Unnati Cell’, which aims to make women from self-help groups self-reliant. The programme focuses on aspects such as branding, packaging, design, and market linkage to help women effectively bring their products to the market.

Rajeevika’s efforts are empowering women to move forward, build their identity, and strengthen their connection with markets, marking an important step towards economic independence.
