‘Women for Trees’ Campaign Launched in Siaha to Mark Green Mizoram Day
Siaha : As part of the Green Mizoram Day observance and in accordance with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) directive, the ‘Women for Trees’ tree plantation campaign under the AMRUT Mitra initiative (a convergence of AMRUT and DAY-NULM schemes) was launched today by Pu V.T. Martin Vabeiduakhei, President of the Siaha District Football Association (SDFA), at the District Playground.
While inaugurating the event, the chief guest emphasized the importance of increasing tree cover and environmental awareness in connection with Green Mizoram Day. He highlighted the government’s efforts in promoting mass plantation and praised the role of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for their valuable contribution to this cause.
Pi Oasis Syuhlo, District Manager of NULM, extended her gratitude to the participants and elaborated on the government’s vision for the campaign. She also briefed about the efforts made by the department and its supporting bodies. During the event, saplings were distributed to 12 selected SHG members based on their plantation requirements. Along with SHG members, officials from the UD&PA Department and members of the District Football Association (DFA) also participated.
The central theme of this ‘Women for Trees’ plantation campaign is ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name), which encourages every woman to plant a tree in honor of her mother. According to the initiative by the UD&PA Department, 24 SHG members will collectively plant 50 saplings under this programme. The SHG members will continue to nurture and take care of the trees they plant.
