CM Directs Launch of Comprehensive Campaign for a Drug-Free Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Aug 2025 – Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a high-level meeting with officials at the Chief Minister’s residence, instructed that the “Drug-Free Uttarakhand” campaign be carried out on a large scale. He directed that strict action be ensured against offenders under the NDPS Act and that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force be further strengthened, including the creation of new posts if required.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for wide publicity of the National Narcotics Helpline ‘MANS’ (1933) so that the general public can easily register complaints. He directed that the police, health, education, social welfare, and other related departments jointly organize workshops and prepare a detailed action plan to effectively implement the drug-free initiative.

He particularly emphasized strengthening vigilance in border areas of the state to prevent the inflow of drugs from outside. Those found involved in drug trafficking should face stringent action. The CM also instructed that awareness programs be conducted in schools and colleges to keep the youth away from substance abuse.

Additionally, he directed the police to intensify night patrolling and take strict measures against drunk driving.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also referred to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to adopt indigenous products and contribute to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). In line with this, he instructed the launch of a large-scale awareness campaign in the state to promote the use of indigenous goods, designating the Urban Development Department as the nodal agency for this initiative.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Shri R.K. Sudhanshu, Shri R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Shri Shailesh Bagoli, Additional DGP Shri V. Murugesan, Shri A.P. Anshuman, Garhwal Commissioner Shri Vinay Shankar Pandey, IG Garhwal Shri Rajiv Swaroop, Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, and Additional Secretary Shri Banshidhar Tiwari.
