Select a Site for the Memorial of Editor-in-Chief Baburao Vishnurao Paradkar Instructions Issued by Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar
Mumbai, Nov 2025 : A memorial for the “Father of Hindi Journalism,” Editor-in-Chief Baburao Vishnurao Paradkar, will be constructed at Mouje Parad (Taluka Malvan, District Sindhudurg). Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar has instructed the committee formed under the chairmanship of the Sindhudurg District Collector to decide on the location for the memorial within the next seven to eight days.
A meeting regarding this was held at the Ministry under the chairmanship of Minister Adv. Shelar. Present at the meeting were Vibhishan Chavre, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department; Dr. Tejas Garge, Director of the Archaeology Department; Sandeep Chavan, President of the Mumbai Press Association; and, via video conferencing, the Sindhudurg District Collector, Chief Executive Officer of the Sindhudurg Zilla Parishad, Superintendent of Police, along with officials from the General Administration Department, Public Works Department, Rural Development Department, and former President of the Kashi Journalists’ Association, Ram Mohan Pathak.
Minister Adv. Shelar stated that Paradkar was an icon of fearless and socially committed journalism, and his name continues to hold the highest regard in the history of Hindi journalism. A memorial for him has already been established in Kashi. As Paradkar hailed from Konkan, it is essential that his memorial and life’s message reach the people. With this intention, a memorial is planned in his native village. The government has formed a committee under the chairmanship of the Sindhudurg District Collector for the memorial’s construction.
He further instructed that the appointed committee should finalize and measure the land for the memorial, and also consider related demands of the villagers while planning the memorial site. Minister Adv. Shelar directed the Sindhudurg District Collector to take a decision within the next seven to eight days and submit the report immediately.
